What is Heat Mirror

First let's dispel the myth.  Heat Mirror is not a highly reflective product like the "mirror" in its name might suggest.  Heat Mirror consists of a family of window insulation materials that are transparent to light, but highly reflective to heat.  The best way to remember how this technology works is that Heat Mirror reflects HEAT back to its source; to the outside in the Summer when you want to reject it, to the inside in the Winter when you want to retain it.  Refer to Application Guide Section - what to use where for use suggestions.

HEAT MIRROR® INSULATING GLASS

Heat Mirror® is a low-emissivity coated film product suspended inside an insulating glass unit. The result is a triple unit with two airspaces without the weight of triple insulating glass and with far superior insulating and shading performance. There are many different Heat Mirror® coatings: HM 88, HM 77, TC88, SC75, 66, 55, 44, 33, and 22. These range from the low reflectance, high-light transmittance performance of Heat Mirror 88 through the maximum shading performance of Heat Mirror 22.

All Heat Mirror products can be used with virtually any type of glass - clear, heat absorbing, reflective, heat-strengthened, tempered, laminated - to achieve superior performance in a wide range of aesthetics.

Heat Mirror insulating glass is available with a variety of clear coatings for mastering the sun's heat. From Heat Mirror 77 to Heat Mirror 22, solar heat gain is properly controlled, and offers you energy efficiency with relation to HVAC costs.

Dual Seal vs. Single Seal

Alpen prides itself in being the only domestic fabricator currently providing dual seal polyurethane for fully captured glazing systems as well as dual seal silicone Heat Mirror units for "butt" glazed applications. This important and advanced feature has been requested by all of our customers. We must be apprised of what seal is required on any job. Your investment in the quality and integrity of Alpen's dual seal units make for a dramatically superior alternative to those utilizing a single sealed approach and enables Alpen to offer an improved warranty to that of any single sealed Heat Mirror unit. This extremely important fact should be brought to the attention of the owner, architect or general contractor.
